Harbor Tug
BUILDING THE CAROL MORAN The Model Carol Moran is Fifty Two inches log and fourteen inches wide and thirty inches tall. The model is built to half inch scale. This would make the original tug about one hundred and four feet long. I was two and a half years building the tug. Counting the three fan motors she has eleven motors. Several electrons boards and five radio controlled servos. T0 push the tug along, there are two large electric motors. A full size twelve volt marine battery for the main power source. The two men you see forward are aiming the fire nozzles, which are run by two radio controlled servos and two electric water pumps. Each fire nozzle throws a stream of water six to eight feet and rotates in all directions. ![]() Captain moves around in the pilot house from port to starboard. Gages on dash all light up and there is a warning light that comes on with the bilge pump. The pilot house is constructed with inside and outside walls so as to run wires and rods threw. Between the roof and ceiling there are wires and devices for rotating the spotlight and radar and for operating the running lights and the mast lights. She has a water pump for cooling the motors that operate the boat. It also pumps water to a fire hose held by a deck hand standing on the aft deck washing it down. The deck hand also rotates from side to side. The tug has a smoke generator and small fan to push the smoke up the stack. |
